HD-RTI: An adaptive multi-light imaging approach for the quality assessment of manufactured surfaces

Reflectance Transformation Imaging (RTI) is a technique for estimating surface local angular reflectance from set of stereo-photometric images captured with variable lighting directions. The digitization this information fully fits into the industry 4.0 approach and makes it possible to characterize visual properties surface. proposed method, namely HD-RTI, based on coupling RTI HDR imaging techniques. This carried out adaptively according response at each angle illumination. method applied five industrial samples which have high variations reflectivity because their heterogeneity geometric texture and/or material. Results show that improves relighting quality compared RTI, particularly relevant glossy heterogeneous surfaces. Moreover, HD-RTI enhances significantly characterization reflectance, leads more discriminating saliency maps, generally an increase in robustness assessment tasks.
